Errigal Youth Hostel

Our luxury Errigal Hostel is a Fáilte Ireland approved hostel situated in a stunning corner of Ireland in County Donegal. This Donegal Youth Hostel lies at the foot of Donegal’s highest mountain, Errigal Mountain, for those interested in hiking and walking.

This impressive custom-built Donegal Hostel had €3 million invested in it in recent years to make the accommodation as modern and sustainable as possible. It has an energy efficient wood pellet boiler, energy saving lighting, water saving measures and composting and recycling of most materials. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used in the hostel.

You have plenty of choice of rooms from en-suite rooms, twin, 4 bedded and 6 bedded rooms with breath-taking views overlooking the Poison Glen and Errigal Mountain.

OPENING DATES:

Open season to September 30.  Groups between October 1, 2019-Feb 28, 2020.

OPENING TIMES: 9am – 9pm

Sunday – Thursday CHECK- IN: 4pm – 8:30pm

Friday & Saturday CHECK-IN: 4pm – 8:30pm

Car/Bike:

  • Errigal Hostel is located in Dunlewey, at the base of Errigal Mountain. From Letterkenny, follow the N56 and after Kilmacrennan, make a left on R255/R251 following signage for Glenveagh National Park and  Errigal.  Continue until you enter the village of Dunlewey and the hostel will be on your right before Roarty’s Top petrol station.  If coming from Donegal Town direction via the N56, after passing through Crolly, turn right on R251.  The hostel will be on your left after Roarty’s Top petrol station.  If facing the Petrol station, we are the third building on the right, up on the hill. We are approximately 45 minutes drive from Letterkenny and 1:30 hours drive from Donegal Town.

Public Transport:

  • The SITT local transport bus leaves Letterkenny (across from the bus station) to Burtonport twice a day and passes through Dunlewey, stopping at the Roarty’s TOP petrol station which is a 2 minute walk from the Hostel.
  • From Dublin or Galway, you can take Bus Eireann to Letterkenny. Alternatively, John McGinley Coaches travels from Dublin and the nearest stop is Ostan Loch Altan in Gorthahork, from there you would need to book a taxi. Feda O’Donnell Coaches travels from Galway and Patrick Gallagher from Belfast, the nearest stop to the Hostel is the N56/R251 crossroads. It is a 3 km walk along the roadway from this point to the Hostel.

Airport: 

  • Donegal’s Carrickfinn airport is a 30 minute drive from Dunlewey. They offer taxi and rental car services by prior arrangement.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi to Bonners Bar in Annagry and pick up the SITT rural transport bus that passes there once a day.

Taxi:

  • There is limited taxi service in the area, all arrangements for pickup from public transport should be confirmed prior to arrival.

Rail:

  • From the train station in Derry the drive is 177 kilometres (110 miles).
