Hike Programme December 2017

 

Please Note: Preference will be given on the “Special Buses” to members of An Óige on production of their membership card. It is therefore imperative to bring your membership card with you each Sunday. Membership Fees are as follows from January 2017: €25 for over 25 years old and €15 for under 25 year olds, family rate is €45. Membership Cards will be posted out. Telephone 01-8826700. Payment by Credit Card and Laser acceptable. Members are advised to check that their An Óige membership card is up to date i.e. cards which show an expiry date of 2016 are not valid and will need to be renewed now.

Please note: From April 3rd 2017, memberships cannot be purchased in Dublin International Hostel. Instead, it will be processed by phone (01 830 4555), email (info@anoige.ie) or through our online membership portal.

It is imperative that the instructions of the Hike Leaders be adhered to by those participating. The Leader sets the pace of the hike and walkers are expected to obey his/her instructions at all times. Leaders have the right to refuse to take anyone who does not co-operate with them fully and anyone who they consider would not be able to walk at a reasonable pace especially on the Moderate Hikes. Walkers who go on Moderate Hikes should be fit and able to keep up with the hike. A Co-Ordinator has been appointed each Sunday to organise hikers on Eden Quay.

MODERATE HIKE

Wander tracks and trails on a Winter Heritage Hike. Exploring the culture of colourful Cualann.

Route: Kilgobbin to Enniskerry via Jamestown – Glenamuck – Dingle Glen – Ballycourus – Barnaslingan – Scalp (West) and Killeagar.

Visit early Christian Churches and Crosses, 15th Century Castle, 19th Century Leadmines and South Dublin’s “Secret” Glen..- a mini Scalp approx.  16kms.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End @10:00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves, torch, reflective arm bands.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: David Marlborough.

Transport: Public transport. No dogs.

EASIER MODERATE HIKE

Ballycullen (Firhouse) – Mount Venus Dolman – Rockbrook – Piperstown Gap – Newtown Lane – Glenasmole School Path- Bohernabreena Resevoir – Kiltipper. Distance:8miles (12 km).

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End @10:00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves torch, reflective arm bands.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Seán Ó Ceallaigh.

Transport: Public transport. No dogs.

EASIER HIKE

Walk in the Phoenix Park

Shankill to Enniskerry.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End @10:00am for the 145 bus or at 10.40am approx. at Brady’s pub in Shankill.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves, torch, reflective arm bands.

˚ Saturday 9th December 2017 (Newcomers Welcome) Mountains to the Sea.

From the Scalp along the Dublin Mountain Way to Shankill – Killiney and along the Metals to Dun Laoghaire.

Meet: @11:00am at Tara Street Dart Station for Malahide Train or @ Portmarnock Station @ 12.00 noon.

N.B. Carvery dinner after the walk in Oscar Taylor’s @3p.m., cost: €6approx.

Bring along a Christ-kindle present costing €5 approx.

The walk to-day will be in the Hollywood Area, followed afterwards by a get-to-gether in the Hollywood Inn., where music and free finger food will be provided courtesy of the Hillwalkers club.
