Volunteer Hostel Managers
Do you love meeting people? Would you like to get totally immersed in the An Óige volunteering experience?
We are looking for volunteer hostel managers who could look after one of our small, self-catering hostels for a week (or more!) in a year. The hostels in the scheme are often in idyllic locations away from the tourist tracks giving you the chance to escape from the stress of everyday life.
Volunteer hostel managers do a lot of hard work but there are many rewards including spending your free time exploring the attractions of the local area and this way you can help keep more of these very special volunteer led hostels open.
Becoming a volunteer hostel manager is an ideal way to gain some experience in the area of Hostel Management in the Tourism Sector.
WHAT SORT OF ROLE IS IT?
The volunteer hostel manager role involves the running and managing of one of our smaller, volunteer-run rural hostels.
This would be for a pre-determined length of time (usually a minimum of a week) and includes:
- Customer Service
- Administration – such as dealing with bookings and payment
- Providing tourist information
- Answering telephone queries and looking after the security of the hostel
You will be supported by a nearby staffed hostel and also An Óige’s Head Office during regular working hours.
WHAT SORT OF VOLUNTEER SUITS THIS ROLE?
Volunteer hostel managers are incredibly important in keeping these very special hostels open. If you have previous experience of customer service and can be a welcoming host this could be the opportunity for you!
The ideal volunteer hostel manager should:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Some experience in hospitality or tourism is a plus
- An understand of the nature of hostelling
- Good customer service skills and a friendly nature
- Willing and able to clean and maintain the hostel building & contents
- An interest in Ireland and travel and tourism market is also a plus
WHAT’S IN IT FOR THE VOLUNTEERS?
And, of course, you’ll be based in one of our beautifully located hostels around the Irish countryside for at least a week!
For our longer-term volunteers, they get complimentary over-night stays in our hostels!
