Cong Lakes Walking Weekend 2012

Cong Lakes Walking Weekend is a four-day bank holiday weekend guided walking event, based on the Cong Clonbur isthmus, a narrow and spectacular stretch of land wedged between beautiful Loughs Corrib and Mask, on the Galway Mayo border.

Two days of walking are on flat ground, through lovely native woodland and are classified ‘easy’, while the third day involves hillwalking to 417 m (1,300 ft) and is classified ‘moderate’. This event is ideal for those who love getting outdoors, but without the physical exertion of climbing a high mountain.

The area around Cong offers superb forest and lakeside scenery, with the special local attractions of the limestone pavement mini Burren at Lough Mask, Cong’s famous dry canal, the native woodland restoration project site at Clonbur Wood and the extraordinary views over both great western lakes from the top of Benlevy.

Cong’s quaint pubs are alive with great traditional music each night, to round off a lovely day’s walking.

The package includes 3 nights B&B, 3 evening dinners, 3 packed lunches, 3 days guided walking and pick up from / drop back to Castlebar train station.
