Hike Programme January 2017

Please Note: Preference will be given on the “Special Buses” to members of An Óige on production of their membership card. It is therefore imperative to bring your membership card with you each Sunday. Membership Fees are as follows from January 2017: €25 for over 25 years old and €15 for under 25 year olds family rate is €45. Membership Cards will be posted out. Telephone 01-8826700. Payment by Credit Card and Laser acceptable. Members are advised to check that their An Óige membership card is up to date i.e. cards which show an expiry date of 2016 are not valid and will need to be renewed now.

It is imperative that the instructions of the Hike Leaders be adhered to by those participating. The Leader sets the pace of the hike and walkers are expected to obey his/her instructions at all times. Leaders have the right to refuse to take anyone who does not co-operate with them fully and anyone who they consider would not be able to walk at a reasonable pace especially on the Moderate Hikes. Walkers who go on Moderate Hikes should be fit and able to keep up with the hike. A Co-Ordinator has been appointed each Sunday to organise hikers on Eden Quay.

Easier Moderate Hike: Boranaraltry Brige – Wicklow Way – Prince Williams Seat – Ravens Rock – Ballinultach.

Meet: Burgh Quay @9.45am. 2nd Pick up point – Bus stop before Roundabout at Loughlinstown. Different return.

Wear: Hiking Boots only. Jeans not allowed. Ascent: 670m Distance: 19km.

 – Moderate Hike: Glendalough Visitor Centre – Camaderry East Top – Camaderry – Turlough Hill – Glenleolo – Glendalough.

National Gallery of Ireland Visit to “Creating History : Stories of Ireland In Art”.

This exhibition brings together works from the 17th century to 1930s, inspired by or depicting episodes in Irish history from the arrival of St. Patrick to the establishment of the Irish Free State.

Special showing of a film by Eamonn Ó Cualáin – Men At Lunch @8.30pm.

The story behind the iconic NYC photograph ‘Lunch A Top A Skyscraper’ which was taken on the 69th floor of the Rockefeller Centre building in 1932.
The story behind the photograph and its Irish connections should be of particular interest to photographers.
