Hike Programme June 2017

 

 

Please Note: Preference will be given on the “Special Buses” to members of An Óige on production of their membership card. It is therefore imperative to bring your membership card with you each Sunday. Membership Fees are as follows from January 2017: €25 for over 25 years old and €15 for under 25 year olds family rate is €45. Membership Cards will be posted out. Telephone 01-8826700. Payment by Credit Card and Laser acceptable. Members are advised to check that their An Óige membership card is up to date i.e. cards which show an expiry date of 2016 are not valid and will need to be renewed now.

Please note: From April 3rd 2017, memberships cannot be purchased in Dublin International Hostel. Instead, it will be processed by phone (01 830 4555), email (info@anoige.ie) or through our online membership portal.

 

It is imperative that the instructions of the Hike Leaders be adhered to by those participating. The Leader sets the pace of the hike and walkers are expected to obey his/her instructions at all times.  Leaders have the right to refuse to take anyone who does not co-operate with them fully and anyone who they consider would not be able to walk at a reasonable pace especially on the Moderate Hikes.  Walkers who go on Moderate Hikes should be fit and able to keep up with the hike.  A Co-Ordinator has been appointed each Sunday to organise hikers on Eden Quay.

Route: Irishtown Nature Park to Poolbeg Lighthouse.

Meet: @ 11 a.m. for the No. 1 bus to Sandymount from Townsend St. bus stop.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Leader: Mary Moloney. No dogs

 

Sunday 4th June 2017 (Bank holiday)

Poolbeg Lighthouse (weather permitting)

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge end at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Route:  Kiltipper – Corrig – Bohernabreena Waterworks

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge end at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes Jeans not allowed.

Sunday 11th June 2017 – Co – ordinator Marie McDonnell

Moderate Hike: Ballinafunshoge Wood – Rebel’s Cave – Lugduff Gap – Top of the Bounds – The Spinx Track – Poulanass Falls – The Green Road – Laragh

Distance:  14 km.;Ascent 500 m.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Easier Moderate Hike: Shay Elliot – Braigue Mountain – Mullacor – The Wicklow Way – Green Road – Laragh

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10am.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Easier Hike: Glen of the Downs to the Sea

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10am or 10:45 a.m. at the 133 bus stop on St. Georges Quay (Adjacent to Tara St. Station) Bus departs @ 11a.m.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Thursday 15th June 2017

Visit The New Criminal Courts in Parkgate street.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End

@ 10:45 a.m. for walk to Parkgate street or @ 12 noon outside the Courts.

A Barrister will talk us through the Irish Legal System @ 1 p.m. We have an optional visit to a courtroom @ 2 p.m. to observe a Court in session. Pre-booking essential as numbers are limited. To book ring Patsy Moloney on (086) 819 4942.

Visit to An Óige Photographic Groups’ Annual Exhibition in the Botanic Gardens.

Meet: At Binn’s Bridge, Drumcondra @ 11 a.m. walk along the royal canal to the Botanic Gardens or @ 12 noon in the main restaurant for lunch.

Moderate Hike: Wicklow Gap – Turlough Hill – Lough Firrib – Lugduff- The Spink – Glendalough.                         

Distance: 17 km. Ascent: 350m.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

79th Annual Photographic Exhibition of Members work

Venue: The National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9

Opening hours: 10 a.m. – 5p.m. Daily

Admission: Free

Why not come along and view almost 400 images produced by members of the An Óige Photographic Group and various other photographic clubs from around Ireland.

The Annual Mass for Deceased Members of An Óige. will be held at Knockree International Hostel @ 3p.m.

The celebrant will be Fr. Jimmy Kelly life member.

Sunday 9th July 2017 Special Walk followed by evening meal

Boolavogue and The Wells Estate in Co. Wexford

Cost: €40 includes transport by special bus and evening meal in a 5-star hotel. Entrance fee into the Boolavogue Centre and Wells Estate. Complimentary tea and coffee at lunch time. Must be paid in full and in advance at time of booking. No refunds.
