Hike Programme April 2017

Please Note: Preference will be given on the “Special Buses” to members of An Óige on production of their membership card. It is therefore imperative to bring your membership card with you each Sunday. Membership Fees are as follows from January 2017: €25 for over 25 years old and €15 for under 25 year olds family rate is €45. Membership Cards will be posted out. Telephone 01-8826700. Payment by Credit Card and Laser acceptable. Members are advised to check that their An Óige membership card is up to date i.e. cards which show an expiry date of 2016 are not valid and will need to be renewed now.

Please note: From April 3rd 2017, memberships can not be purchased in Dublin International Hostel. Instead, it will be processed by phone (01 830 4555), email (info@anoige.ie) or through our online membership portal.

It is imperative that the instructions of the Hike Leaders be adhered to by those participating. The Leader sets the pace of the hike and walkers are expected to obey his/her instructions at all times.  Leaders have the right to refuse to take anyone who does not co-operate with them fully and anyone who they consider would not be able to walk at a reasonable pace especially on the Moderate Hikes.  Walkers who go on Moderate Hikes should be fit and able to keep up with the hike.  A Co-Ordinator has been appointed each Sunday to organise hikers on Eden Quay.

  • Sunday 2ndApril 2017 – Co-Ordinator on Eden Quay: Des Whelan.

Moderate Hike: Bohernabreena – Seahan – Seefingan – Kippure – Kippure Gate (14km).

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge end at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Tom Kenny.

Transport: Special Bus. Cost €15. No Dogs.

 

Easier Moderate Hike: Bohernabreena – Glenasmole – Castlekelly Track – Featherbeds

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge end at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Ann Prendergast.

Transport: As above. N.B. The above 2 walks will use the same bus.                          

 

Easier Hike: Coastal Walk from Kilcoole to Greystones.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Leader: Des Whelan.

Transport: Public transport. DART to Bray and bus No. 84 from Bray Station at 12.10. No dogs.

 

  • MIDWEEK WALK: Thursday 6th April 2017

Route: Sutton to Howth.

Meet: At 11.15am at Tara St. Station or Sutton DART Station at 12 noon.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat & gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Leader: Patsy Moloney. No dogs.

 

  • Saturday 8th April, 2017 – Newcomers Welcome

Route: Arthur’s Way from Leixlip to Oughterard, Co. Kildare (16km way marked route).

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat & gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

Leaders: Eilish Ryan and Ann Prendergast.

Transport: Public transport. No Dogs.

 

  • Sunday 9th April 2017 – Co-ordinator on Eden Quay: Marie McDonnell.

Moderate Hike: Knickeen Ford – Table Track – Table Mountain – Spot Height 618 – Lobawn – Donard.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Jim Barry.

Transport: Special bus. Cost €15. No dogs.

 

Easier Moderate Hike: Sugarloaf – Lobawn – Donard.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Martin Fagan.

Easier Hike: Walk part of the proposed Ancient East Way, Newcastle, Co. Wicklow.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Transport: Take 11am DART to Bray to pick up No. 84 bus to Newcaslte departing from outside Bray station at 12.10.

 

 

  • MIDWEEK WALKS – Thursday 13th April 2017.

Route: Dublin Mountain Way.

Meet: At 10.15am at Tara St. Station for 10.30am train to Shankill or 11am at Shankill Station.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat & gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes. Jeans not allowed.

Leader: Seán Ó Ceallagh. No dogs.

 

  • Sunday 16th April 2017 (Easter Sunday) – Easier Walkers Only

Shop River – Kilmolin – Ravens Rock – Shop River.

Meet: Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.30am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots or strong shoes.

  • MIDWEEK WALKS – Thursday 20th April 2017

Route: Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey and Killiney via The Metals.

Meet: At 11.15am at Tara St. Station or 12 noon at Dun Laoghaire Station..

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots only.

Leader: Mary Moloney. No Dogs.

 

  • Sunday 23rd April 2017 – Co-Ordinator on Eden Quay: Marie McDonnell.

Newcomers Hard Hike: Windy Gap – Foxes Rock – Ravens Rock – Split Rock – Eagle’s Rock – Carlingford Mountain – Slieve Foy – Barnavave – Famine Village – Rooskey Loop – Carlingford.

Meet: Burgh Quay at 9.45am. No second pick-up and drop-off points.

Bring:  Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat & gloves.

Wear:  Hiking boots only. Jeans not allowed.

Ascent: 700m – Distance: 15km.

Leader:  Chris Byrne.

Transport: Special bus. Cost €15. No dogs.    

 

Moderate Hike: Hampden Memorial – Black Hill – Mullaghcleevaun – Black Hill – Ballynultagh Gap – Lacken.

Meet:  Laughter Lounge, Eden Quay, O’Connell Bridge End at 10.00am.

Bring: Rainwear, flask, sandwiches, simple first aid kit, hat and gloves.

Wear: Hiking boots. Jeans not allowed.

Howth Castle – Deer Park Golf Course – Rhododendron Garden – Quarry – Howth Summit – Cliff Walk – Old Carrickbrack Road – Climb to Quarry – Red Walking Trail to Howth (break off at Howth Summit if desired).

Meet: At 11am at Howth DART Station.

Carlingford Church – Táin Way – Slieve Foy – Eagle’s Rock – Ravens Rock – Goylan Pass – Carlingford.

“Beyond Caravaggio”

The first major exhibition, being shown consecutively in London, Dublin and Edinburgh, to explore the influence of Caravaggio, one of art’s most infamous and revolutionary figures, on the art of his contemporaries and followers.

Meet: At the Clare St. entrance to the National Gallery at 11am.

Admission: €10 (concession rate) is by timed ticket.
