Newgrange Lodge Hostel was formerly an old farmhouse but was lovingly restored as a Five Star hostel located in the heart of the historical and picturesque Boyne Valley region - also known as the Valley of the Kings. Perched on seven acres of land, the hostel overlooks the world famous UNESCO heritage sites of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, a must-see for tourists visiting Ireland!
All rooms in this Meath Hostel are en-suite, equipped with a power shower, cable TV, free internet access and self adjusting room thermostat and all guests get a free hearty continental breakfast as well as free parking and free bike hire. Combine this with the fact that it also has free secure luggage storage, cable TV, a 24-hour reception, a BBQ and great outdoor recreational areas and it’s easy to see why this is a Five Star rated hostel!
Newgrange Lodge Hostel provides a unique and popular venue in County Meath for the independent traveller, families and groups alike. Excellently located within 30 minutes from Dublin Airport and city, the hostel is half way between Dublin and Belfast just off the main M1 motorway.
Located opposite the world famous UNESCO Heritage site of Newgrange, an ancient passage tomb over 5000 years old – that’s 500 years older than the Great Pyramids and 1000 years older than Stonehenge! Visit the burial chamber in Newgrange where the whole tomb lights up on only one day a year for 17 minutes on the Winter Solstice, showing the advanced thinking of the time. There’s a huge lottery list of people for this event – add your name you might get lucky!
Newgrange hostel provides an excellent base from which to explore the amazing attractions within the region including the Battle of the Boyne Heritage Centre, the Hill of Tara from where the High Kings of Ireland once ruled the country, Trim Castle, Monasterboice, Mellifont Abbey and the quaint village of Slane. Slane is home to the impressive Slane Castle famous for hosting some of Ireland’s most famous and legendary rock concerts. Past concerts include U2, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, the Kings of Leon and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Road/Car/Coach:
The Newgrange Lodge Hostel is approximately 30 minutes from Dublin Airport. Take the M1 Motorway in the direction of Belfast and take the 2nd exit after the Toll Bridge before Drogheda (Exit 9). The exit is signposted for DONORE. Please then continue to follow the signs for Newgrange Visitor Centre. Newgrange Lodge Hostel is located on the left hand side before the entrance to the Newgrange Visitor Centre.
Alternatively if travelling on the N2 please follow the signs for the Boyne Valley Drive and Bru na Boinne Heritage Centre. We are approximately 5 miles (8km) from the N2 and 200 meters on the right hand side just beyond the entrance to the Bru na Boinne Heritage centre
Public Bus:
There are buses from Drogheda directly to Newgrange daily and the bus will drop you right outside our door.

Rail:
The nearest town is Drogheda, a ten minute drive to Newgrange Lodge Hostel. Trains travel regularly to Drogheda from Dublin and Belfast. Use Irish Rail information to get to the nearest train station which is in Drogheda. Then you can get a bus from Drogheda as above or alternatively a taxi will cost you approximately €12.00.
Newgrange Shuttle Bus:
This shuttle bus departs Dublin City Centre x 2 daily from Dublin International Hostel and brings you straight to the Newgrange Hostel.

Walking Trails: There are plenty of walking trails through out the county including the Boyne Ramparts Heritage Walk which is a 5mile/8km walk along the River Boyne. Forest walks can be taken nearby at Littlewood Forest or at Townley Hall. Both walks are well signposted and comprise of a varied mix of conifer and broadleaved tree species. Littlewood Forest also displays interesting information detailing the flora and fauna in the woods for the curious nature-lover!
There are also plenty of Eco Trails throughout the county and local guides are available.
Cycling: Free bike hire is provided at the hostel. Newgrange hostel is happy to provide a map outlining a number of cycling trails around the county that take in many of the historic attractions en route as you cycle around the lush, country scenery of Meath.
Local guided tours around Newgrange
The staff at the lodge will be delighted to assist you in arranging a tour of the area. We also have a list of recommended, qualified guides who are experts in the local history of the area should you wish to organise your own private tour at a small price.
Families can enjoy a mix of culture and fun for the kids. Visit Red Mountain Open Farm located only 5 minutes from the Lodge. This farm provides an ideal opportunity for the kids to meet the animals in the petting farm.
Alternatively you could splash out in Funtasia, Ireland’s largest indoor water theme park and amusement centre. Located in Drogheda, Funtasia is a 10 minute drive from the Lodge.
Or if you like your crisps, then you have to visit Tayto Park, Ireland’s newest theme park based on Ireland’s most popular potato! It’s only located 20 minutes drive from Newgrange Lodge.
Just launched this year Newgrange Lodge are excited to offer Full and Half Day Activity packages to youth groups on site in the adjoining 7 acres at Newgrange Lodge.

Nightlife and Eating Out
The Town of Drogheda is only a 10 minute journey from the hostel which contains a wide variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. There is also our local traditional pub in Slane called Boyle’s Pub which often hosts Irish traditional music nights as well as also hosting number of famous Irish music performers.
As with all accommodation, prices vary depending on the season and but it includes continental breakfast and sheet hire and in non-dorm rooms you get towels included for your power shower!

Flat Lake Festival
What is it? The Flat Lake festival is a sumptuous weekend of creativity set in
the glorious Hilton Park Estate in Co. Monaghan. It offers just about

Loughcrew Opera Festival
What is it? Loughcrew Opera set in a fully decorated marquee located in
beautiful gardens. The magic of the Loughcrew Opera is something you will never

Swift Satire Festival
What is it? The festival celebrates Dean Jonathan Swift, English literature’s greatest satirist, who resided in Trim for a significant part of his life. The festival seeks to promote political awareness, debate and satire in Ireland by featuring events where politicians, satirists, academics, social commentators and the public openly debate.
