Father Ted Festival on the Aran Islands

Tea and sandwiches and all of the usual high jinx February 23rd to 26th

Father Ted This festival on will either completely baffle you or make you want to up sticks and head for ‘Craggy Island” for a few days of completely off the wall madness!

The festival celebrates the cult TV series Father Ted, which ran between April 1995 and May 1998, and as anyone familiar with it will know that means madness, mayhem and total chaos are not just inevitable but desirable.

Remember Father Ted Crilly, genial, 40-ish, grey-haired and ambitious who lies and schemes like Sergeant Bilko. Coming along with him are Father Dougal McGuire , a wide-eyed, 20-something halfwit in a variety of knitted jumpers who fails to grasp basic facts about the world and Father Jack Hackett, red-faced, wild-haired, catatonic, drool-stained, voraciously alcoholic and foul-mouthed. But what is a house of three men without some woman's wisdom? So there's their housekeeper is Mrs Doyle, a middle-aged, much-exploited slattern with a large mole on her lip. Psychotically hospitable, she regales priests and visitors with gallons of tea, hills of sandwiches and mountain ranges of cake.

Planned events (though who knows what will actually happen) include Buckaroo and Movie Charades, a Jesuit Country & Western Hour, Priests v Nuns Beach Volleyball. Oh, and of course the annual Lovely Girls Competition!

The 2012 Tedfest will see events taking place Inis Mór (Inishmore) and Inis Oírr (Inishere). For further information have a look at the Galway Tourism website.
