Sligo, with its miles of coastline, rich farmland, lakes and mountains is known the world over for great beauty, glorious golf, fishing, horse riding along beaches or through country lanes and wonderful towns and villages.
Here you have the capital of the North West of Ireland, Sligo, from where you can travel to many places of interest, where history, culture and heritage mix with ease in the modern city life that is Ireland today. There is natural beauty everywhere, Hazelwood forest by the shores of Lough Gill, places made famous by the Yeats Family and in particular W B Yeats.
Visit the Yeats Memorial Building in the centre of Sligo before visiting Lissadell House and Drumcliffe Church. Take a walk through the centre of the town and see Sligo Abbey, St John’s Cathedral, Hargadan’s Pub. Take a 5 minute drive to Rosses Point and walk along the beach for miles or go to Strandhill and try some surfing in the Atlantic Ocean followed by a Sea Weed bath on the Prom. Shopping is a wonderful experience with local crafts available throughout the county and at night Sligo has pubs, restaurants and clubs to keep you busy.

COMING FROM DUBLIN N4 /GALWAY N17 DIRECTION
Take the N4 into Sligo from Dublin, follow this road into Sligo Town and then follow signs for N16 to Enniskillen. After about 2 miles/km, you will take a right hand turn at a set of lights, still following the Enniskillen signs. You will go straight over a small round-about and then at the next set of lights. After this round-about, you will be turning left, (there is an “Esso” Garage on this junction). You then take the next turning on the right, after this garage, and then the next left into Yeats Village. (Yeats Village is the red brick and yellow painted houses). You can’t miss them!
The office is on the left hand side just after you enter the village, you will see the sign above the office door.
COMING FROM BELFAST M1 & N16 / ENNISKILLEN N16 DIRECTION
You will be coming into Sligo on the N16 .On the outskirts of the town you will come to the “ABBOTTS” round-about, at this roundabout you will be taking a left hand turn towards Sligo Town Centre, still following the N16. Yeats Village will now be on your left hand side, just opposite the F.A.S. Training Centre. Yeats Village is the red brick and yellow painted houses. Take the second turning on the left, after the roundabout, and then take the next left turn into Yeats Village. The office is on the left hand side just after you enter the village, under the stone stairs. Look for the sign above the door.
COMING FROM DONEGAL / BUNDORAN / LIFFORD DIRECTION N15
You will be coming into Sligo on the N15. On the outskirts of Sligo town, you will come to two sets of traffic lights very close together, and at these you will be making a left-hand turn following the signs for the N16 ENNISKILLEN. Still following the Enniskillen signs, you will go straight over a small round-about and then at the next set of lights, after this round-about, you will be turning left. There is an “Esso” Garage on this junction. You then take the next turning on the right, after this garage, and then the next left into Yeats Village. FROM TRAIN AND BUS STATION
Just turn left when you come out of the Sligo Bus and Train Station entrance and keep walking straight. It will take about 20 minutes. You will go through the centre of town, then out past the banks and then past the Hospital (on your left). At the set of lights after the Hospital you will go straight across. There is an “Esso” Garage on this junction. You then take the next turning on the right, after this garage, then next left into Yeats Village. Yeats Village is the red brick and yellow painted houses. The office is on the left hand side just after you enter the village, you will see the sign above the office door.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery - This is the largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland and is also among the country's oldest, with monuments ranging from five and a half thousand to six and a half thousand years old.A restored cottage houses an exhibition relating to the site.
Sligo Abbey - this dominican abbey was found in the 13th century by Maruice Fitzgerald. This abbey contains a great wealth of carvings including Gothic and Renaissance tomb sculpture and the only sculptured 15th century high altar to survive any Irish monastic church.
Irish Raptor Centre - excitement, fun, photo opportunities and much more. Situated amid the beautiful landscape of North-West Ireland is Eagles Flying, the largest Centre for Birds of Prey and Owls in the country. Experience some of the biggest birds of prey in the world flying right over your head or landing next to you. Watch different species of eagles hunting on prey-dummies in their natural environment. Be astonished about the arrowlike flight of the falcons and the amazing intelligence of the vultures.
Arigna Mining – Take this unique opportunity to walk underground through what was the last working mine in Arigna and see how the coal was mined. Stroll through the exhibition area which traces 400 years of mining history in the area. With an Ex-miner as your tour guide you have the chance to learn about the incredible life story of the miners.
Gilligan’s World – Botannical gardens, and natural flora and fauna blend together, enhanced by "faerie habitats" in miniature model villages and "enchanted" glades.

Parke’s Castle - A restored plantation castle of the early 17th century, picturesquely situated on the shores of Lough Gill, once the home of Robert Parke and his family. The Courtyard grounds contain evidence of an earlier 16th century Tower House structure once owned by Sir Brian O'Rourke who subsequently was executed at Tyburn, London in 1591. The Castle has been restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmenship. Access for visitors with disabilities to ground floor.

Water Sports
Strandhill is a very picturesque village situated about 5 miles west of Sligo City between the Atlantic Ocean and the slopes of towering Knocknarea Mountain. There are several miles of golden sandy beach and some gigantic sand dunes to explore! The village is noted as a location for unforgetable views of Atlantic sunsets.
Furthermore the beach is a great fun day out for surfing. A vast beach break capable of holding huge waves Surfing is usually best when the tide is on the push in from mid to high tide. At high tide a rebound effect from the low tide can make for unusual currents or rips with large erratic barrelling waves that slam against the rocks.
Surfing championship in Bandoran is held on a regular basis in this small town in Sligo County. Different Nations fight for the cup and the entertainment around promise a fun day out for the whole family. Don't miss it the next time!

Yeats Summer School - A two-week academic Summer School with lectures, seminars, Poetry Workshop, Drama Workshop, visits to the Yeats Country, Music and Drama, with a focus on the poetry, plays and prose of W.B. Yeats. Every year, the Summer School arranges readings by renowned Irish authors and various musical and dramatic presentations.

Fiddlers Creek Bar and Restaurant : Fiddlers Creek is renowned as one of the top bar/restaurants in the country. This venue with its excellent food and quality service is located in the town centre, about 10 – 15 minute walk from Yeats Village. Hawk’s Well Theatre : One of Sligo’s finest attributes, the theatre is one of the oldest regional theatres in the country and still remains as alive and as active in the Irish arts scene as ever.
