Galway is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations for good reason. Galway is the cultural capital of the West of Ireland, renowned for traditional music, theatre and nightlife. Galway is an ancient city, but as a university town its mediaeval streets and pubs throng with a young, vibrant and cosmopolitan population.
Sleepzone Galway Hostel is a spacious purpose-built hostel , with nearly 200 beds in en-suite rooms, both dormitory and private. The Galway Hostel has a fully equipped and modern self catering kitchen which opens out onto an airy terrace, with gazebo and benches. Sleepzone Galway Hostel is situated in the centre of Galway City-100 metres from Eyre Square, only 3 minutes from the bus and rail terminal and close to all the city's amenities, including pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants. From Galway City Rail and Bus Terminal: The station is beside Eyre Square in the centre of Galway City. When you exit the station, cross over to Garvey's Bar and, keeping Eyre Square, on your left, walk to the top of the street. At the top of Eyre Square turn right. You will see Cuba Night Club/Bar 903 on your left. Go past Bar 903 and take the next turn left (Bothar na mBan)- you will see Sleepzone about 80 metres down on the left hand side.
From Galway Coach Station (private companies arrive here): Exit the coach station and walk right, towards the traffic lights outside Anglo Irish Bank. Walk up Bothar ui Eithir (the road that divides Anglo Irish Bank on the right and Mace convenience store on the left). At the top of Bothar ui Eithir turn left. Then take the first right onto Bothar na mBan. You will see Sleepzone about 80 metres ahead on the left hand side. Please note that Bothar ui Eitir is a one way street-you can walk but not drive up.

For Car Drivers:
From the Dublin Rd into Galway, follow the signs for Clifden until you reach the roundabout with traffic lights.
• Take the second exit for the City Centre
• Drive about 500 metres and take the second left turn (opposite Dyke Rd)
• Sleepzone Galway Hostel is about 50m ahead on the right hand side. It is a large red and yellow building.

Aughnanure Castle - Built by the O'Flahertys c.1500, Aughnanure Castle lies in picturesque surroundings close to the shores of Lough Corrib. Standing on what is virtually a rocky island, the castle is a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house. In addition, visitors will find the remains of a banqueting hall, a watch tower, an unusual double bawn and bastions and a dry harbour.
Athenry Castle - Athenry is one of the most notable medieval walled towns surviving in Ireland, owing its foundation to Meiler de Bermingham who built his castle there c.1250.
The battlements are original 13th century work with tall arrow loops or slits in the solid sections or merlons. Imagine yourself back in history with a visit to this castle!
Dun Aonghasa – visit this attraction for an outdoors tour of the largest of the prehistoric stone forts of the Aran Islands. Perched spectacularly on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic ocean, this is one to wrap up for beforehand! Members get Group Rate at all OPW Heritage sites.
Patrick Pearse’s Cottage – Patrick Pearce (leader of the 1916 Rising) used this small cottage as a summer residence and summer school. Overlooking the breathtaking lakes and mountains of Connemara, this restored cottage is a piece of Irish history. Members get Group Rate at all OPW Heritage sites.
Aran Island Ferries – Aran Islands have preserved their ways and visitors can see the old ways of life that have disappeared from modern Ireland. Found in the heart of Galway Bay, the Islands' raw beauty and charm boasts breath-taking scenery, early Christian ecclesiastical ruins, medieval castles, prehistoric stone forts, sandy beaches, cliffs, fresh air, unique flora and fauna (a dream for botanists!) and a rich folklore and stories ensuring visitors return time and time again. Members get a 10% discount for all bookings.
Connemara Heritage Centre - Connemara has plenty of megalithic stones, tombs, stone and earth forts. Alongside this there are early Christian churches and castles too – some of which are still lived in! For a fascinating glimpse of the past, make for the Connemara Heritage and History Centre at Lettershea, near Clifden.
Kylemore Abbey - the number 1 tourist attraction in the West of Ireland – Kylemore Abbey is a truly stunning sight. With a Gothic church, incredibly maintained walled gardens, tearooms and the magnificent abbey itself – this is an attraction not to be missed! Don’t forget your camera! Members are entitled to a reduced admission of €7.00
Erislannan Riding Centre - at Errislannan Manor in Clifden Riding and trekking on the famous Connemara ponies takes place by the hour each morning from Monday to Friday inclusive. For members the price is only €30 per person for 1 hour ride, trek or lesson including free garden visit

What is it? Galway Early Music promotes the performance of medieval, renaissance and baroque music in Galway City and County.

Celebrating Clifden 200
What is it? This shared Mexican and Irish episode in history will form the backdrop for a joing commemoration in Clifden which will be attended by His Excellency, the Mexican Ambassador to Ireland, Carlos Garcia de Alba and his embassy officials. Mexican and Irish traditional music and dance, talks and exhibitions, will take place in various venues over the five days.

Little Havana Festival
What is it? Cuban-inspired music, dance, street entertainment, art and cultural events feature in the busy programme of on-street and on-premise activity, creating a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a colorful Cuban atmosphere reminiscent of Havana itself. An eclectic and fun-filled Latin Street Party, its three-day programme of free events will bring the rhythms and sounds of Havana to the medieval streets of Galway.

The International Quilt Festival of Ireland
What is it? For those who enjoy creativity, there will be a number of on-location workshops to enjoy while at the festival. The workshops will be taught by local craft artists in their studios and, since the number of participants for each workshop will be no more than ten persons, registering early is highly recommended.

What is it? There are many events for all the family, and the street entertainers, Big Rory and his dog Ochie, are not to be missed. What is it? The Portumna Marathon & Ultra Marathon takes place in Portumna on the 16th June, 2012. The races will include a marathon; 50km run and a 100km run around the beautiful State Forest Park in Portumna.
